Another life drawing to put on the pile, from quite a few weeks ago at Betty Frankenstien's drawing sessions in Crystal Palace. Some old textured paper, and a softer, less linear approach from me proved quite successful. The tweeters on Twitter quite liked it, too. ;o)
Lunchtime in SE1
One of my regular haunts has inspired me again. The London Bridge / Borough area produced some more characters and architecture to help me create 'Lunchtime SE1'. It was quite a lengthy process: trip out with a camera + photoshopped composition + pencil drawing + two colour transfer using oil paint and pencils. I'm pleased with it though, as it is suitably manic and bustling for a weekday lunchtime in that part of town. I've also entered it into the John Ruskin Drawing Prize, so fingers crossed. I'll know by the beginning of May if I've made it through to the shortlist. Here's the pencil drawing that I also did (from the photoshop montage) if you're interested:
Drawing For Life - 14
This is the best from the other week's life drawing. I think it has a whiff of an old master 'cartoon', no? It must be a combination of the brown and black colours on some off white paper.
A Sketch a Day - really?
I've been following some people on Twitter who seem to post sketches daily. There are a few hash tags, but the one I've been following is #thedailysketch. A lot of them are drawn from life, outside in countryside or urban environments. I'm attempting to add my own posts, using a combination of life drawing, drawing from outside and other sketches. It's hard, as I'd love to do a drawing every day, but my sporadic efforts are a start, at least! Here are a few of my non-naked efforts recently.
Drawing For Life - 13
It's been too long, friends. I know you've missed the nakedness, so here are some from recent weeks. I've been trying out some coloured paper, which adds a nice smack in the eyeballs. The white chalk is a bit harder to sort out, as the poses at Betty's are quite short. I may be giving myself too much to do in the allotted time. We'll see.
